Policy & governance

How GZMP is governed: terms of office, recruitment, finance, training and partnership.

Terms of office

Terms of office shall be three or five years, renewable for two terms. A person becomes eligible again after a gap of one term.

Recruitment

A team of men and women oversees the recruitment of missionaries. They formulate guideline norms for candidates covering spiritual standing, doctrinal position, theological and educational qualification, missionary call, commitment to the work, and teachability.

Termination

A missionary may be terminated on moral grounds, doctrinal issues, disciplinary matters or health grounds.

Finance

There shall be an accountant, a treasurer and, where possible, a finance secretary. Accounts are audited twice a year internally and once annually by a chartered accountant. We must be entirely clean in matters relating to finance.

Banking

GZMP holds a bank account with three signatories. The account operates on two signatures out of the three.

Fundraising

Where possible there shall be a team of fundraisers in every country, each linked to the central finance team.

Training

Cross-cultural missionary training is mandatory for every candidate. GZMP may run its own training or partner with existing centres and institutes, and may establish training centres in different countries where that is feasible.

Mobilisation

There shall be a mobilisation team in every country, responsible for motivating churches to be involved in mission through prayer, giving, sending and going.

Selection of field

A proper and careful survey of each mission field is conducted and carried out by a group of experienced missionaries.

Partnership

Partnership with like-minded national and international organisations is crucial, and is entered into only after careful consultation. GZMP examines each organisation's statement of faith, core values, member care and financial policies. Since it is difficult for GZMP to hold its own fields and missionaries alone, partnership is the key to our strength.

What we look for

Every missionary candidate is assessed against the same standard.

  • Must be genuinely born again.
  • Must have a clear call to be a missionary.
  • Must have a passion for lost souls.
  • Must live a life worthy of that new life and calling.
  • Must be morally clean.
  • Must be a person of integrity.
  • Must be willing to work and adjust with other agencies and organisations.
  • Must be a teachable person.
  • Must be trustworthy in morals, finance and responsibility.

Every candidate is asked to affirm the partnership's doctrinal basis without reservation before being accepted for service. Statement of faith
