Explore your part in God’s global mission

A discipleship course in context, culture and calling — for anyone asking where God is calling them next.

Opportunities

Life-changing opportunities to serve

Exploring Mission recognises that you are already living, learning and working in intercultural contexts. It is a lived experience, not a theory course. Our world is changing quickly, and intercultural mission must keep pace — an outdated approach to global mission simply will not do.

GZMP forms a mobilisation team in every country where it has members, responsible for helping churches take part through prayer, giving, sending and going. If there is no team where you are, write to us — that is often how one starts.

Ways to serve

Short-term, mid-term, long-term

Three lengths of service. They are not a ladder — a two-week visit is a real contribution, not a rehearsal for a real one.

Short-term

Go and see

Two weeks to three months

Join a field team for a visit, a survey or a short project. The quickest honest answer to “is this me?” is to stand in the place and find out.

Mid-term

Learn the work

Three months to two years

Long enough to learn a language, carry real responsibility and be known by a local church — without yet asking your family to move for good.

Learn more

Long-term

Give your life to it

Three years and on

A career appointment among a least-reached people, in partnership with a local or like-minded mission. This is the work GZMP exists for.

How it works

GZMP's process to deployment

Nobody is sent in a hurry. Three stages, each with people walking it beside you.

  1. 01

    Enquiry & assessment

You write to us. We talk, and a team of men and women assesses your spiritual standing, doctrinal position, qualification, call, commitment and teachability against the published norms.

  2. 02

    Training & partner development

Cross-cultural missionary training is mandatory — ours, or a centre we partner with. Alongside it you build the praying and giving partnership that will sustain you.

  3. 03

    Field survey & sending

Experienced missionaries survey the field carefully before anyone is placed on it. Then your church and GZMP send you together, and the member-care relationship begins.

Who it is for

Anyone wrestling with questions like these:

  • What is God doing in the world?
  • What is my role in God's mission?
  • What does intercultural mission in Myanmar look like?
  • Where is God calling me now?
  • How can I be trained and equipped for what God has for me in the future?

Why partnership

Three words, three commitments

Global

An international collective of reflective practitioners — a network and a partnership, with strategic ties to organisations on every continent seeking to glorify God in every nation.

Mission

Our primary concern is to advance God's purposes in the wider world as revealed in the biblical narrative — our human response to God's revelation, resulting in God's New Creation being extended through faith in Christ.

Partnership

An inter-generational global community of mission leaders intersecting movements, networks, agencies, churches and ministries, encouraging participation in the purposes of God worldwide.

FAQ

Questions people ask us first

What is GZMP's role in sending missionaries?

GZMP motivates and mobilises Christians worldwide, assesses and trains candidates, surveys fields, and sends workers in partnership with local and like-minded missions. Because it is difficult for GZMP to hold its own fields and missionaries alone, partnership is the key to our strength.

Do I need to raise support to serve with GZMP?

Yes. Funds are raised from individuals, families, churches and mission organisations who have compassion for lost souls, and where possible there is a team of fundraisers in every country, each linked to the central finance team. You are not left to do it alone.

What are you looking for in a candidate?

A person who is genuinely born again, with a clear call to be a missionary and a passion for lost souls; who lives a life worthy of that calling, is morally clean, is a person of integrity, is willing to work and adjust with other agencies, is teachable, and is trustworthy in morals, finance and responsibility.

Is training compulsory?

Cross-cultural missionary training is mandatory for every candidate. GZMP may run its own training or partner with existing centres and institutes, and may establish training centres in other countries where that is feasible.

How is a mission field chosen?

A proper and careful survey of each field is conducted and carried out by a group of experienced missionaries. No one is placed on a field we have not examined.

Who do I answer to on the field?

You serve under the field arrangement agreed between GZMP and the partner mission holding that field, and you remain accountable to the GZMP board through your regional representative.

How does GZMP handle money?

There is an accountant, a treasurer and, where possible, a finance secretary. Accounts are audited twice a year internally and once annually by a chartered accountant. The bank account carries three signatories and operates on two signatures out of the three.

How do you choose which organisations to partner with?

Partnership is entered into only after careful consultation. We examine each organisation's statement of faith, core values, member-care policy and financial policy before anything is signed.

Can a missionary's service be ended?

Yes. A missionary may be terminated on moral grounds, doctrinal issues, disciplinary matters or health grounds. The grounds are published precisely so that no one is surprised by them.

How long does a term of office last?

Terms of office are three or five years, renewable for two terms. A person becomes eligible again after a gap of one term.

I am not called to go. Is there a place for me?

There is, and we need you. There is a mobilisation team in every country responsible for stirring churches to be involved through prayer, giving, sending and going — and a prayer network of Zomi Christians around the world praying committedly for the lost and for the sent ones.

Where do I start?

Write to us. One conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and it is how every missionary GZMP has sent began.
